John Barrowman (born 11 March 1967 in Glasgow) is an openly gay actor. He was raised in Joliet, Illinois and university in San Diego, following which he returned to the United Kingdom to perform in several West End musical productions, including Anything Goes, Miss Saigon, Matador, Rope and Hair.

He appeared in several episodes of the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who (2005) as the character Captain Jack Harkness, beginning in The Empty Child. He will be also appearing in the 2006 series, although not in the first block of episodes.
