Elena Vasiliyevna Obraztsova (b. in Leningrad, now St Petersburg Russia, on July 7, 1939) is a Russian mezzo-soprano. In June 2007 Obraztsova was appointed as the artistic director for opera in Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg. She has played many roles throughout her career, including, perhaps most famously, Carmen in 1978 opposite Placido Domingo*.
