Tyrod Taylor (born August 3, 1989 in Hampton, Virginia) is the current starting quarterback for the Virginia Tech Hokies football team. Taylor is a true freshmen for the Hokies and earned the starting QB position after his first NCAA action in the September 8, 2007 game against the LSU Tigers. In that game Taylor completed 7 of 18 passes for a total of 62 yards. Taylor also rushed for 44 yards on 9 attempts including one touchdown. Taylor led the team in both passing and rushing. Tyrod was named the starter by Head Coach Frank Beamer several days later. In his first collegiate start against Ohio University Tyrod threw for 287 yards with a rushing touchdown. 119 of those yards were thrown to Josh Morgan. Glennon has since regained the starting spot after stellar performances in games against Duke, Boston College and Georgia Tech while playing in place of an injured Tyrod.

Early life

Taylor was born in Hampton, Virginia to Rodney and Trina Taylor.

Taylor led Hampton High School to a 34-4 record during his three years as a starter. He accumulated 7,912 yards of offense and threw for 48 touchdowns as a Crabber. Tyrod graduated from Hampton High School in 2007. Taylor, who is 6-foot-1, 200 pounds and runs a 4.39-second 40, was rated the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.com. ESPN.com rated him the No. 3 overall quarterback, while Scout.com said he's the nation's seventh-best passer.
