The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a game currently in the late stages of development by Bethesda Softworks LLC (Limited liability company), in partnership with ZeniMax Media continuing the long tradition of The Elder Scrolls game series. It is currently confirmed for the PC, Xbox 360, and unconfirmed for the Playstation 3. The game has been in development since 2002 and is claimed as "another leap forward in role-playing with its combination of freeform gameplay and cutting-edge graphics."
It has been confirmed by developer Todd Howard (see links below) that the world will be larger than the previous installment in the series: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Oblivion will sport a completely rebuilt engine, a more involving and exciting combat interface (using the Havok physics engine), outstanding graphics (comparable to action games such as Half-Life 2), a more robust magical system, a more interactive stealth system (similar to Thief's), a reworked fighting system (more animations and use of counters-weapons). As well many additional new features not seen previously in the series.
Oblivion will mainly take place in the Imperial province of Cyrodiil but parts of it will also take place in Oblivion, the realm of the Daedra. Though Oblivion has been loosely described as the TES version of hell, this is a very misleading concept. TES religions do not follow real world conventions, and Oblivion is better described as home to the darker TES gods and not a place where humans are banished after death.
It is slated to be released in Winter 2005; which could be as early as the fourth quarter of 2005 (roughly the same time as Xbox 360) or early 2006.
