Covasna is a county (Judeţ) in Romania, in Transylvania, with the capital city at Sfântu Gheorghe (population: 67,108). Its common abbreviation is CV.
Demographics
In 2000, it had a population of 231,172 and the population density was 62/km². According to the latest national census (2002), the major ethnic groups in the county are:
- Hungarians (73.8% or 164,158)
- Romanians (23.3% or 51,790)
- Gypsies (2.7% or 5,973).
The Hungarians of Covasna are primarily Székely.
