The word w00t has a long and tumultuous history. It sprouted from nerd culture (e.g. Runescape) and has continued to grow through the gaming community. It is part of the family of L337Speak and is often used heavily on gaming forums along with phrases such as "Nub PWN3R", "Nifty" and "xD". Many words in the L337 language are abbreviations such as OMG (oh my god). w00t ftw!
