McMinnville is a city located in Yamhill County, Oregon, named after McMinnville, Tennessee by its founder, William T. Newby, an early immigrant on the Oregon Trail. It was founded as a town in 1876 and as a city in 1882. County residents voted to move the county seat of Yamhill County from Lafayette to here in 1886. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,499.
McMinnville, like much of the Willamette Valley, is known for its wine. It is also home to the Evergreen Aviation Museum, which houses the Spruce Goose that Howard Hughes had built. It is home to Linfield College, chartered in 1858.
