"Filipino" is a term relating to the people of the Philippines. It originally referred to the Spanish population born and settled in the islands. During the nationalization movements and after the revolt and independence from Spain, it came to refer to the general population.
Recent anthropologists suggest, that Filipinos belong to the descended people who spoke an Austronesian language. They migrated to the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Pacific Islands to Madagascar from southern China via Taiwan thousands of years ago.
Filipinos are also refered to as Asian Latinos because of their close historical and cultural affinity with Spain and Latin America. In reality, Filipinos are racially descended mix of Malayan, Chinese, and some Melanesian peoples. And many were later mixed with European blood from the invading/conquering Spaniards and other European traders/merchants.
