Andres

I would like to nominate Andres for adminship. Andres is a very intelligent and level-headed contributor that researches articles very thoroughly. (He has been around since April of this year I think, has about 1000 total edits, 850 non-minor, 550 non-minor and non-Misplaced Pages/User/Talk related for those who care :) Dori | Talk 03:49, Dec 10, 2003 (UTC)

  • Thank you for nominating me. I don't oppose adminship though I don't need the sysop status. I spend most of the time on the Estonian Misplaced Pages and here I edit only articles I am interested in because of their content. Andres 04:15, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. I especially like his edit summaries. silsor 04:10, Dec 10, 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. --Wik 04:13, Dec 10, 2003 (UTC)
  • Support if he thinks he'll use it. If not, I oppose. I don't think it's necessarily good to have inactive sysops. (He is definitely active enough as an editor and has sufficient experience for me to support otherwise.) Daniel Quinlan 04:39, Dec 10, 2003 (UTC)
  • Support, -- G-Man 13:34, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • I would not be an active sysop. I would use my adminship very rarely, if at all. Andres 04:46, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • I don't think inactivity as a sysop should be an issue. If Andres only uses his extra buttons to delete a nonsense page once in a blue moon that's OK (or even if he doesn't). I use mine rarely myself, and don't see that as a problem at all. -- sannse 08:51, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • I certainly hope there isn't a required page deletion quota for all sysops... Damn, forgot to block someone today, I'll probably get my Misplaced Pages salary for today halved... Κσυπ Cyp   16:56, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Bcorr

Brian has been with us for 4 months and did 811 edits. He started some nice article: User:Bcorr/new articles. He doesn't sound bitchy or hateful, so he probably will make a good admin who is not bitchy or hateful. And he, even though an non-admin, sometimes participates in the Mailing List. That's more involved than admins like me! (Damn my small-sized hotmail. I can only read the mailing list, not reply. :-D --Menchi (Talk)â 07:15, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • Support. Brian has made excellent contributions and spent a lot of time mediating the 2002 Gujarat violence page. He will make a great sysop. Angela. 07:24, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • Support. One of the statesmen of Misplaced Pages, if there were any. - Mark Ryan 04:40, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Thank you all. I'm honored to be nominated and I accept. I've felt welcomed and encouraged from the beginning of my time being active on the Misplaced Pages, and I appreciate all of you who've taken the time to ask and answer questions, offer guidance, and correct me when I've made an error. I'll do my level best to follow my own advice and to be helpful and friendly. And thank you for the kind words. -- BCorr ¤ Брайен 23:30, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Timwi

  • Timwi -- Hi. I've been around since June, and I've been a well-behaved user all the way through. :) I don't make ground-breaking new contributions very often, but I make a lot of minor corrections and I revert vandalism. I would like to be able to help with this better, and thus, I am requesting adminship. Thank you for your attention. -- Timwi 21:49, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Raul654

  • User:Raul654: I'd like to be an admin. I've been here since August and in that time, I've made 943 edits (mostly science, science fiction, computer, or history related - most of my time is put into writing new articles or massively expanding existing ones). The reason I ask is that I want vandalism quashing powers. --Raul654 11:35, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. Alexandros 16:17, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Have you been involved in any disagreements we can look at, to see how you acted during them? I like what I've seen of your general editing. Jamesday 16:48, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • I think this() is a excellent example of Raul654's diplomatic demeanor that he displays when resolving issues. He is quite pleasent to converse with. Alexandros 17:17, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)
    • Three that I can think of. (1) On the List of Famous Experiments, someone (user: DJ Clayworth) moved all of the chemistry experiments into physics. To me, this was not an improvement, so I moved them back, without realizing he had made an entry into the discussion page. I apologized and we talked it out on the discussion page. (2) The second one was on Lee Atwater. I admit it - the original article I wrote was POV (it's pretty hard to write NPOV for a hatchetman). Other people came in and changed it, and the only change I objected to was calling bounce polling a research technique (it's not - see Talk:Lee Atwater) (3) On the Theory of everything page, someone posted about Gene Ray. I took it out, believing it has no place an encylopedia (at best, he's a crank). Most of the subsequent edits pretty much bear that out. In the end, someone created the List of speculative or fringe theories and linked to it there. I agreed with this (and when it came up in the votes for deletion, I voted to keep the page). Basically, I make a conscious effort to avoid inflammatory articles and edits (not hard in the areas I do), and I try to fix them when I see them. --Raul654 17:20, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Evercat

  • Evercat: Oh I give up. After about a month of abstinance I want to be a sysop again. There are still vandals to fight. :-) But fighting Wikiholism is futile. Still, I've learnt I can just ignore stuff sometimes and let others handle it... Evercat 23:48, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Ugen64

  • ugen64 I'd like adminship, mainly because of all those vandalisms I see and have to correct (usually by writing a stub, because I am like that). I've been here for about, oh, 6 months, but I've only contributed significantly for about 4 months. I've asked once before, but was rejected. ugen64 14:09, Dec 5, 2003 (UTC)
    • Support. I have no reason to believe that ugen64 would not make a good sysop. Quite the opposite. Daniel Quinlan 02:15, Dec 6, 2003 (UTC)
    • Support. Didn't have enough information to support last time, but do now (300 non-minor edits in the last two weeks alone, many of them very good ones). --Delirium 02:47, Dec 6, 2003 (UTC)

      • Crank up the limit number on your user contributions page and count. I doubt anyone counts by hand. ;-) Daniel Quinlan 20:49, Dec 6, 2003 (UTC)

      • Well... thanks... I guess... ugen64 20:58, Dec 9, 2003 (UTC)

Pakaran

I nominate User:Pakaran, who is doing a lot of good work. RickK 05:26, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I'm willing, if the community wants me. I nominated myself a month or two back, and the consensus was that I wasn't ready. I don't think I'd be one of the more active admins, like you, Angela, Evercat, or Dysprosia. I don't even think I'd use admin powers every day, but I'd help out - much the same as I do now. -- Pakaran 05:30, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Has not demonstrated ability to investigate matters in a fair way, by accusing me of having a "hobby" of edit warring etc. --Wik 05:34, Dec 5, 2003 (UTC) (PS Actually I'm helping you, as my opposition will move ten other people to support you!)
  • Support (and not because Wik opposed), since I've noticed Pakaran striving for quality in articles, and is active in keeping an eye out for vandalism. Dysprosia 05:42, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. Pakaran has shown an excellent understanding of Misplaced Pages and has worked on many controversial topics whilst avoiding getting involved in edit wars over them. Angela. 05:47, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Defer. Pakaran is a good contributor, but he's been here for just two months with 270 edits of article pages. Perhaps a *bit* more time only because we should be consistent. WP has rejected other folks for too little experience. Fuzheado 06:11, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Support, why not be an admin, while getting more experience? Κσυπ Cyp   09:02, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • Support. Seems a sensible contributor. Arwel 16:13, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I suppose the Rachel Scott stuff has affected me - they are still adding trivia to the article. Michael Hardy

I would like to nominate Michael Hardy for adminship. He's been here since at least October 2002 (March 2002 if you count the page move bug) and has made over 12k edits. I checked a couple of times to make sure he wasn't already listed as an admin, and to my surprise he wasn't. He writes good articles and is helpful and friendly to others. Maximus Rex 06:42, 1 Dec 2003 (UTC)

  • Support. Does some valuable work, very knowledgeable - but I'd like Michael to stick with some conventions like instead of visible inline comments, use HTML comments or the talk page. Dysprosia 06:48, 1 Dec 2003 (UTC)
  • Huh? You mean he isn't already? Support, of course. Michael can be terse to the point of rudeness, but he does an incredible amount of very tedious and absolutely essential copyediting work, always with care and accuracy, keeps a cool head, and he cooperates effectively with other workers. He will be a first-rate addition to the team. Tannin 08:08, 1 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Khym Chanur

  • Khym Chanur. I'd like adminship so I can delete "Candidates for speedy deletion" without having to ask someone else to do it.
    • That's okay, but I think you could use a bit more time and experience on Misplaced Pages as an editor before you become a sysop. The speedy deletions are pretty well handled right now, you can always ask on WP:VFD and it will get deleted (maybe slowly). • I nominate User:Secretlondon. While she's only been here a bit over 2 months, Secretlondon has already made thousands of contributions, large and small, has quickly caught on to Misplaced Pages conventions, works well with others, and often blanks graffitti and similar nonsence. • My God! What a way to start a day! Well, i thank everybody for support, encoragment and ego-boosting. Its very nice indeed to see my work acknowledged by so many wikipeers, when i'm used to see my friends and family get bored to death with my research on these topics. But i have my reservations about this. Its not that i dont want, i do!, but the thing is that i have a PhD to do. In Geology, not the Romans... I spend already too much time on the wiki without further excuse. I'm afraid the only task i would do is to delete junk and perhaps cooperate in the Main Page editing (I dislike edit wars and i do not wish to get involved in mess by protecting/unprotecting pages.) But... this makes me very proud! Muriel Gottrop 10:12, 30 Oct 2003 (UTC)

      • You don't need to be Super-Admin, just do your bit for making Misplaced Pages rule :) But, the decision is up to you. Dysprosia 10:25, 30 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • OK lets give it a try! How does this work now? Muriel
      • A developer will sysop-fy you in a few days. Then, you can do the "delete junk" when you catch one, and do some "Main Page editing" when you feel it needs some. There are over 100 sysops, so the work isn't yours alone. There's plenty of time for other stuff. :-) --Menchi 22:24, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Daniel Quinlan

It would be nice to be able to help people out more often and handle trivial problems. I can't claim I plan to use administrator rights every day, but it seems to be at least once a week or so that I wish I could address something, but have to wait and let someone else fix it (like deleting a redirect, for example). I won't abuse administrator status or make use it in any article where I've been actively involved, in an active disagreement with people, etc. I've been a Misplaced Pages contributor since Dec 6, 2002 and have made 1317 non-minor edits since I started. That's about 4 per day. I think I've made some particularly good contributions on United States Presidential line of succession, Synthetic fibers (and sub-articles), English language (and related articles), and elsewhere (well, I think most (nobody's perfect) of my edits are great ;-). I was also quite involved in the discussion around advertizing and when redirects can be deleted, so I've been around and involved for quite a while. Daniel Quinlan 07:42, Oct 21, 2003 (UTC)

Arwel Parry

I've been here since the end of January, and have only managed to be involved in one edit war (with Eloquence over date formats in 10 Rillington Place). I'm not the most prolific author, but those I do write tend to be quite, um, encyclopaedic (see most of the denomination articles off British coinage for example, or British banknotes (the interest in money comes from not having much!)), and I've also got a bit of a spelling fetish, hence quite a lot of minor typo edits. I'm also the sole admin over on cy.wikipedia. Arwel 14:20, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)

  • Support. I'm sure Arwel would be a great admin. Angela 15:26, Oct 9, 2003 (UTC)

  • Oppose: Sysops shouldn't get into edit wars. However, if Eloquence votes to support, I will toggle my vote to support. --Uncle Ed 22:22, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • Ah, the joys of irony! My point being that as I've only been in 1 edit war, I don't go looking for them (and I didn't start that one). As the outcome was that we got date formats made a user preference, I think I can safely claim that most people were happy with the result of it :) Arwel
    • So you're asking that Eloquence (and probably most sysops, myself included) be de-opped for being involved in an edit war? We look for good behavior with the hope that this good behavior continues when one is a sysop. Deteriorating behavior once a user gains this status should not be permitted. --Jiang 23:01, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • Edit wars can't always be avoided, sadly, for example, when not reverting a certain change for too long would mean that work that has already been done needs to be done again. In any case, I don't see that as sufficient reason to oppose Arwel's sysop status.—Eloquence 10:50, Oct 10, 2003 (UTC)

        • It took over two weeks in my case. Enjoy the wait. :) -- sugarfish 03:58, 8 Oct 2003 (UTC)
          • A well-defined policy would make me slightly less anxious about doing this myself. What should the minimum listing time be? How many people need to give their assent? Snoyes is a now sysop, BTW. -- Tim Starling 04:54, Oct 8, 2003 (UTC)
        • According to comments made to me by User:Notheruser and User:Angela while I was in sysop-promotion limbo, promotion requires two other users voicing support. I'm not sure how things are resolved if someone voices dissent. -- Cyan 05:17, 8 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Jakenelson

I know I haven't been here long, so I can understand if people say no, but I've become quite the addict here... and I'm tired of having revert wars with anon IP vandals (12.65.43.243, 68.5.127.81, I think another I've forgotten), plus I'd like to be able to delete utter junk pages myself. (On a semi-separate side note (noticing past namechanges at point of adminship), I wonder if it'd be possible for my username to be changed to Jake? It's listed as in use, but the user's made no edits. If not, I'd kind of prefer Jake Nelson to my current Jakenelson.) Thanks, Jake 10:53, 2003 Sep 20 (UTC)

Can I be an Admin please? Well, I'm fairly new here (about 3 months) and I'm completely hooked. There's no real rhyme or reason to what I edit, but I'm working my way through 80s music... slowly, and doing a lot of good stuff with American History, which ain't bad for a Brit!
