They make good pets, being easy to train. They are very active, and playful, affectionate. Good with children and other dogs. They bark at strangers and to get attention making them excellent watch dogs.

They were introduced to the United States in the 1950's. They typically weigh 11 to 13 pounds, fuly grown, and stand 1 foot to 14 inches off of the ground. They can live from 10 to 12 years if cared for well. Their coats are mostly white. The hair is longest on the body, with short hair on the head and ears. The Spitz is a very intelligent dog.
