EDIT EDIT Welcome to my talk page!
Start a new talk topic.
All archiving tasks which used to be performed by the MiszaBots are now performed by lowercase sigmabot III without the need to change the {{User:MiszaBot/config}} configuration. The actual MiszaBots are neither functioning nor expected to become functional. Please do not post here regarding archiving bots.
When posting on this page, please observe the following guidelines:
  • Discussions should be kept together, so unless you request otherwise, I will reply to your posts here and will also watch pages where I have posted myself and expect replies there. Do not use the {{talkback}} template or derivatives thereof here.
  • Keep content disputes on relevant articles' talk pages.
  • I'm not interested in XfD discussion adverts - these will be ignored. Similar requests by email are redirected to /dev/null immediately.
  • Don't revert edits to this talk page, unless they're obvious vandalism like blanking/malicious editing of other's comments etc. I'll deal with stupid/hate/spam messages myself by promptly ignoring them.

Thank you!

This user talk page might be watched by friendly talk page stalkers, which means that someone other than me might reply to your query. Their input is welcome and their help with messages that I cannot reply to quickly is appreciated.

Deletion of sock usertalk page

A long while back you deleted this page. This is a sock and there was evidence on the page. Is there a reason the page was deleted other than that it (apparently incorrectly) showed up in CAT:TEMP? If not, can we undelete it? The user has showed back up and made further edits. I'd prefer to restore, blank, tag, and possibly lock the page. But you deleted so better to ask you first in case you know something I don't.  ;-) --Doug. 02:02, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Hearing nothing, I deleted the new page which had only nonsense on it and redirected it to the userpage.--Doug. 17:13, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Found another one here; same puppeteer.--Doug. 02:54, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

Miszabot does not seem to be working on the talk page of this article. Can you help? --Filll (talk) 13:45, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

It's now archiving inactive sections all right, but it isn't cutting them from the Talk page, or updating the counter. Of course, the poor bot may simply be choking on the sheer size of the thing.
—WWoods (talk) 15:50, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Nope. Oddly enough, the bot receives edit conflicts on archive pages (because they were deleted - the framework thinks it was *just* deleted). Миша13 17:13, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Question

I can't seem to make the archivebot.py working right. Can you give me an example syntax? Not the archivebot.py but the real syntax that one will use to make the bot archive something. I plan to use is at tl wiki. -- Felipe Aira 04:23, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

That is the real syntax. Anyway, the simplest would be:
python archivebot.py "User:MiszaBot/config"
where User:MiszaBot/config is the template used for configuration. All others are just bells and whistles (like, running only on a specified page, in a specified namespace, etc). Миша13 17:16, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Next page

How does Miszabot know when to start a new page? I've just split Misplaced Pages talk:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)/Archive 96 in two. I would be good if Miszabot were to start on 98. How do we tell it to do so? JIMp talk·cont 00:32, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Adjust the counter variable in the configuration template on the discussion page being archived. Миша13 21:23, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

New WP:UNI newsletter ready!

I'm just letting you know that the April 2008 Newsletter for WikiProject Universities is ready to go. Let me know if you have any questions, thanks!—Noetic Sage 04:05, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm Guessing I Should Talk To You, Too.

I am getting a bit frustrated (not that you'd care) because my pic is not copyrighted. It has been uploaded onto my PERSONAL Page, and has not been shown as comic canon. In fact, I made note of that on my PERSONAL page, and as such, I would like to have my picture restored. This seems ludicrous that I would be accused of presenting a counterfeit picture ( or whatever the reason you deleted the picture). Please clarify youir intentions, and help me find out how to get copyright info on a pic with NO COPYRIGHT.

btw: did you even read my page, to know how the picture was used? RandyS0725 (talk) 11:50, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

How about tagging it properly as instructed? Миша13 21:22, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Bot question

Your name has come up here and your comments are welcomed. Franamax (talk) 19:30, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, ok - it came up - not the first time, really - whatever - just please don't insult my bots with suggestions along the lines of 100 tabs in my browser or something. Thanks & Cheers, Миша13 21:30, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
No, I'm not trying to insult anyone or anything, and certainly not anyone who has the skill and patience to code up a useful piece of operations. The "100 tabs" was a wry reference to other discussions I've seen where people question high edit-rates (ANI I think, I can dig those up if you wish). I've notified you here because I think this is a serious discussion as to how tools are used, and what exactly constitutes "bot edits". No offence intended, apologies if any perceived, and give your bots an extra 10 volts for me. Bots are extremely useful and need to be here, for sure, I just see a cloud of confusion around the issue. Skoal! Franamax (talk) 21:48, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
No offense perceived; in fact, I was referring to the numerous discussions where people (like Pascal.Tesson) repeatedly play "surprised" and "outraged" to have found out operating adminbots. Seriously, it's been said and admitted so many times that the only reason I haven't yet painted a big "THIS USER IS RUNNING ADMINBOTS ZOMG" with blinkenlichten on my userpage is because it would deface it. Some of my sysop bots have been running for as long as over 1.5 years (as that joke userpage reminds me) without issues worth noting and I have yet to see a reasoning that would compel me to change the status quo. Миша13 22:02, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, the "surprised and outraged" part might apply to eight-month-old's like me who are still struggling to encompass the full culture of the site. It's somewhat depressing to put all the work in of learning, and still be met with "hah - newbie, that's not how we do things". Unwritten rules are great, but it's also nice to be able to find some place where they're written. It's also somewhat disconcerting to watch a botop/BAGer who throws the f-bomb freely and responds to genuine concerns with "stop lying" and "removed vandalism" come out with a mystifying "shh, hunting wabbits" remark. (Quotes are paraphrased, but guess who?).
Perhaps it would well behoove you, to the benefit of the project, to make just such an adminbot statement on your userpage (sans blinking lights) to make all and sundry aware of the status quo. Regards. Franamax (talk) 22:28, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
