Moldovans are an ethnic group cognate to Romanians, which live mainly in the Republic of Moldova, where it comprises 76.1% of population according to 2004 census.

According to some, Moldovans are same as Romanians, the Moldovan ethnic group is none other but the Romanian ethnic group of the Republic of Moldova. However, despite the same origin and culture, which they share with Romanians, the modern Moldovan national identity is based on the identification with the country of Moldova, and its separate political history.
