This is a list of notable and historic figures who have been polyamorous. Polyamory is the desire, practice or acceptance of more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time, with the full knowledge and consent of all involved.
Criteria
Many notable and historic figures have conducted multiple simultaneous relationships that nevertheless would not be considered "polyamorous" because of the absence of "full knowledge and consent." In Victorian England, for instance, the difficulty and stigma of divorce often left a rich man's wife little choice but to tolerate his mistresses, who themselves might be dependent on him for financial support. Such relationships are not included in this list.
Because of the difficulty in distinguishing between romantic historic relationships and sexual relationships between friends, this list takes a broad construction of "polyamory" that includes the latter. For more specific information, see individual pages and the external references.
