While the identity of this new Hulk has yet to be revealed several clues have been shown throughout the first few issues of the series, including Red Hulk being accidentally ID scanned at the Gamma Base and destroying the secruity system before it announced his ID<ref name="H3"/>. The appearance of this Hulk is similar to the mainstream Hulk apart from his yellow ] and ], and most notably his ] ].

Red Hulk is the name of a fictional comic book character within Marvel Comics' shared universe the Marvel Universe. He first appeared in Hulk #01 (March 2008), and was created by Jeph Loeb and first drawn by Ed McGuiness.

Publication history

The red Hulk was introduced in Hulk #1, written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Ed McGuiness. This monthly ongoing series started following the World War Hulk crossover.

Fictional character biography

The Red Hulk was first seen in the Bering Strait on his way to Russia when a satellite picked up the seismic activity of the Hulk landing on the ground. On the way Red Hulk is attacked, and has to kill, a Wendigo, while in Dimitri, Russia, the Red Hulk murders Abomination.

In New York, the Red Hulk attacks Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tony Stark's newly commissioned Helicarrier causing it to crash land and be destroyed. While there Red Hulk wiped all files on the Hulk with a sophisticated virus. After this attack, Red Hulk heads to Gamma Base, Death Valley, Nevada where he squares off against A-Bomb before having to face android Harpies (with the face of Betty Ross), and the original Hulk.

Characterization

Marvel editor Mark Paniccia described the Red Hulk as "absolutely uninhibited, tactically intelligent".

Powers, abilities, and equipment

Red Hulk has a set of superhuman powers almost identical to Hulk (Bruce Banner); including superhuman strength, stamina, and durability, as well as the ability to heal at a rapid rate. This hulk gives of gamma radiation, it has also been stated that "the madder this Hulk gets the hotter he gets" repleting with high levels of gamma radiation when he gets angry.

Red Hulk pounding A-Bomb into the ground caused level 10.0 seismic earthquakes.

Red Hulk has been shown to use a S.H.I.E.L.D.-issue handgun; ergonomically designed for his giant hands, taken from the armory of the Tony Stark designed Helicarrier.
