They received a great deal of early attention from ] and the British tabloid press for their catchy songs and witty lyrics. The appearance they made on the Carling Stage at the 2005 ] was much hyped by the music press, the ] in particular, and the band was received by an abnormally large crowd for the billing they played. The superb performance even included spontaneous sing-a-longs from the more madly devoted fans of the band (known as the 'Weekend Rockstars'). Impressively, this included tracks that were only available as demos on the internet. It was at this time that ] Alex Turner took the opportunity to rebuff claims that his band could not live up to the hype that has followed their emergence, and declared, "It feels like a moment, us playing here." | |||
In ] Arctic Monkeys released their debut single '']'', featuring the songs ''Fake Tales of San Francisco'' and ''From the Ritz to the Rubble''. This release was limited to 1000 in CD format and 500 in 7". In June 2005 the band were signed to ], and they are due to release their next single, (Bet You) Look Good on the Dancefloor on 10th October 2005 with Bigger Boys and Stolen sweethearts as the B-side. |
