:It's a courtesy to other editors, to save them the inconvenience of scrolling back to the top of (say) AN/I and typing ''User talk:Docu'' in the search box every time they want to leave you a message. If there's some harm that would come to you from having the link, we can try to work out an alternative solution, but I'm not sure if I see the downside. I know that you don't ''have'' to do it, but it would be really quite neighbourly if you did. (Perhaps it would be best if you replied in the thread at AN/I, as I imagine that folks there are interested in the reason for your stance.) Signature
Hi again Docu. I took a look at your comments at Misplaced Pages talk:Signatures and I'm afraid I wasn't able to see where you answered my recent question about why you don't link your userpage/talkpage and include time and date in your signature and so I'd ask again that you explain this. Thanks. Adambro (talk) 18:04, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- What do you think of the stated goals for the 2007 change?
- BTW did you have any luck trying to reason him? Note that you are free to rescind your previous decision. -- User:Docu
- You've still yet to answer my question about your signature. Regarding Andy's recent edits, I've yet to understand what the issue is and so if you could clarify this for me I would very much appreciate it. Adambro (talk) 19:52, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- I share your analysis here in regards to his edits. Can you try to convey this to him? -- User:Docu
- So, if I understand correctly, you are suggesting that he is making edits which have implications which he isn't dealing with? Could you provide some diffs to help me understand. I also still await a response to my question regarding your signature. Adambro (talk) 20:39, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Did you have a look at the diffs provided earlier? I hope you do understand that my question predates yours and the point still hasn't be resolved. -- User:Docu
- If you are in a dispute with Andy then you're probably best talking this through with him. I don't have a good enough understanding of what the issue here is to become involved in mediating as it would appear you want me to do. I would therefore ask again that you explain your reason for not having links and time/date in your signature as others are also concerned about. It could be said that, unless you provide a good reason for not doing, omitting this information is just creating others more unnecessary work in order to work out when your comments are made and find your userpage, talk page, and contributions, and as such could be classed as being disruptive. Adambro (talk) 13:05, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not in dispute with Andy, he just broke a few pages and doesn't bother repairing them. BTW I'm participating in the related discussion thread (see Misplaced Pages talk:Signatures). -- User:Docu
- I've raised this issue here. Adambro (talk) 20:58, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Your signature
Hi Docu. I've noticed some of your posts on talk pages, and found that when you sign them, your signature doesn't include:
- a link to your user page or user talk page;
- the date/time stamp.
The latter is very important, as it enables the reader to tell when your comment was made. This is especially important on pages like the Adminstrators' noticeboard or the incidents page, when lots of posts are made in quick succession and it's impossible to make sense of what order comments were made in if the date/time stamps are not there. It is also useful to be able to get to the page of the person who made the post.
If you have modified the default signature in your preferences, then please either change it back, or change it so that the timestamp is included. If you don't know what I mean, then just remember to sign your posts using ~~~~, or by clicking the signature button above the editing window.
If you have any other questions, please ask me on my talk page. Thanks, --RFBailey (talk) 21:03, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- It has just come to my attention that you are an administrator. So, I'm sorry if the above sounded a bit patronising, but given that you are an administrator, I really, really, shouldn't have to be telling you how to sign talk pages and why the timestamps are important! --RFBailey (talk) 21:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your note. For consistency, I sign my comments in the same way. Apparently this seems problematic to some, especially since someone revised the related guideline. Anyways, I'm participating in the related review thread (see Misplaced Pages talk:Signatures). I do agree with you that the post on WP:ANI should have been timestamped, please excuse the omission. -- User:Docu
- Could you add a link to your user or talk page to your sig? Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with sugar on top?
