She represented Minnesota in the nationally televised Miss Teen USA 2002 pageant broadcast live from South Padre Island, Texas where she placed in the top ten. This was only Minnesota's second placement in the competition, following Michelle Borg who was a semi-finalist in 1996. Of the semi-finalists, Ilushka placed ninth in the swimsuit competition and tenth in evening gown, finishing tenth on average. The pageant was won by Vanessa Semrow of Wisconsin.
