Revision as of 09:34, 8 April 2009
ShortcutWikiProject Ireland Collaboration is a Wikiproject inspired by Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation. The projects intends to be a bipartisan effort to improve collaboration on and coverage of Irish related matters both North and South .
The aim of this project initially will be to bring editors from Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Ireland ,Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Northern Ireland, Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Irish Republicanism and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Unionism together
Currently editors on both sides will often only interact in controversial discussions such as Requested moves and Article for discussion. This project will attempt to bring editors together at first on common uncontroversial matters.
Goals
- To provide guidelines and recommendations toward a more hospitable editing environment for Ireland topics;
- To monitor and evaluate the tensions, battling and disruption over editing Ireland topics;
- Actively to seek the cooperation of people who are uninvolved or hold different POVs as specified under membership;
- To mobilize members (and like-minded users) to help this WikiProject, collaborate on low-tension articles, and intervene constructively on high-tension articles
- To prevent and resolve POV disputes, while ensuring that articles to convey a neutral and verifiable perspective.
Members
The group welcomes editors with different Points of views as well as uninvolved folks. Members should support the project's goals and be willing to engage in non-combative conversation. Otherwise, there are no specific criteria for membership at this time.
Members are encouraged, but not required, follow dispute-reducing principles or practices, such as WP:1RR. If a member decides to pledge such a principle or practice, he or she can list it and other pledges.
Interim agreement. Pending further discussion, let's observe the following membership expectations. (Inspired by SLDRA!)
- Members commit, to the best of their ability, always to "comply with Misplaced Pages policies such as assuming good faith of all editors including those on the other side of the real-world dispute, contributing to the goal of a neutral point of view, remaining civil and avoiding personal attacks, utilizing reliable sources for contentious or disputed assertions, and resorting to dispute resolution where necessary." (ArbCom quote)
- All editors are encouraged to pledge to no more than 1RR per day (not counting rv standard 3RR exceptions)
- Decisions for the WikiProject will primarily be based on the consensus of members. Nevertheless, all non-members are dearly welcome to participate in all our collaborations and discussions.

Agreed procedures and methodologies

The following is proposed, as per talk page discussion, as a structured procedure for resolving the Ireland naming issue:
Problem 1
Problem 1 | Possible Proposed solution |

The content of the page called Ireland | (A) Page contains "The island of Ireland" |
(B) Page contains "The state of Ireland" | |
(C) Page contains a simple (short) disambiguation page for Ireland | |
(D) Page contains content that combines both state and island information for Ireland in summary style, while having more detailed child articles (the "MickMacNee solution") |
Problem 2.1
Problem 2.1 | Possible Proposed solution |
---|---|
The page that contains "The state of Ireland" (void on the adoption of problem 1 B) |
On the adoption of 1A, C or D: Ireland (country) contains "The state of Ireland" |
On the adoption of 1A, C or D: Ireland (republic) contains "The state of Ireland" | |
On the adoption of 1A, C or D: Ireland (state) contains "The state of Ireland" | |
On the adoption of 1A, C or D: Republic of Ireland contains "The state of Ireland" | |
On the adoption of 1A, C or D: Your favoured variation here contains "The state of Ireland" |
Problem 2.2
Problem 2.2 | Possible Proposed solution |
---|---|
The page that contains "The island of Ireland" (void on the adoption of problem 1 A) |
On the adoption of 1B, C or D: Ireland (country) contains "The island of Ireland" |
On the adoption of 1B, C or D: Ireland (island) contains "The island of Ireland" | |

The statement process
The statement process is the first step in gathering facts, findings and opinions regarding the naming of Ireland related articles, and will be in the form of a non-rebuttal debate. Editors can post statements in which they plead their case for one of the proposed solutions above, or formulate a solution of their own. Other editors can either endose or oppose these statements, but may not enter into discussion. The only way to 'argue' is to create a statement of your own, which others will endorse or oppose.
The statement process has now closed. Please do not add any more statements. |
