The Reborn Jedi are characters in the computer game Jedi Outcast, and later in Jedi Academy. They serve as lightsaber and Force wielding enemies in the games.
Origin
The Reborn were Imperials who were taken by Desann, a Dark Jedi, to the Valley of the Jedi, thus infusing them with the Force. The name Reborn possibly stems from their 'rebirth' into force-sensitivity, or from Lord Hethrir's faction the Empire Reborn. The majority of Reborn were from the group of Empire Youth selected by Desann's master Lord Hethrir.
Later, Galak Fyyar, an Imperial Remnant scientist, finished designing his Shadow Armour. This armour was then distributed to the most skilled Reborn, creating the Shadow Troopers.
Classification
Reborn are classified into 5 groups:
- Orange (normal)
- Blue (Acrobats)
- Green (Fencers)
- Red (Force Users)
- Black (Elites)
These colors are a designation of their power. Black Shadow troopers are the most difficult to defeat in the game. They have been fed the most force power and possess several abilities. During the assault on the Jedi Academy, Reborn worked in teams, sealing off exits and overwhelming Jedi. Reborn could not use Force Lightning but could "Push" Jedi and even "Choke" them.
Even so, they were still defeated because they were not fully trained in the use of the Lightsaber.
Shadowtroopers
The Elite of the Reborn warriors, the Shadowtroopers were the culmination of Galak Fyyar's efforts in Jedi Outcast. Armed with a lightsaber and suited in Shadow Armour, they saw the most success in the assault on the Jedi Academy.
What differentiates the Shadowtroopers from other Reborn is the Shadow Armour. Developed by Galak Fyyar, the armour suit has three notable characteristics. Firstly, the Personal Cloaking device and black colour grants the wearer greater stealth capabilities. Secondly, the suit itself has a Cortosis weave giving it a certain amount of resistance to lightsabers. Finally, the armour has an attatched Artusian crystal that has been imbued with the Force, probably from the Valley of the Jedi.
It is speculated that by donning the armour one gains force-sensitive capabilities while wearing it and using the Artusian crystal. During one of the Imperial Stormtrooper conversations Kyle Katarn can listen to one remark to the other that given the Shadow Armour he could do anything the Reborn can do. This suggests the armour instantly grants its user the ability to wield the force, but not the skill to do so properly. In addition, the Shadow troopers in the game drop imbued Artusian crystals on death that replenish Kyle's force meter, acting as further evidence to the theory.
When Rogue Squadron destroyed the Doomgiver, it destroyed every Shadowtrooper aboard, and the ones at the Jedi Academy were destroyed, ending the Shadow Trooper threat.
Reborn in Jedi Academy
In the game Jedi Academy, sequel to Jedi Outcast, the Reborn returned as enemy forces. They are now divided as New Reborn, Reborn Twin, and the powerful Reborn Masters. Apart from standard lightsabers, Academy Reborn were trained to use double-bladed lightsabers as well as dual lightsabers.
As the Player could access more Force Power in Academy than Outcast, so could the Reborn. The Player would often see the Reborn accessing powers like Heal, Protect, Absorb, Lightning and Rage.
Reborn who were lucky enough to survive the events in Jedi Outcast were rounded up by Tavion, Desaan's Apprentice. Upon discovering the artifact The Scepter of Ragnos, Tavion formed a cult called The Disciples of Ragnos, leading the Reborn to fight against the Jedi and the New Republic. Tavion used the scepter to empower new recruits with Force energy, resulting in the rising number of dark powered Cultist and Reborn.
