Aside from contributing the gothic artwork and ominous vocals, Vargo stepped in as the executive producer and new creative director of the band. Vargo lent his musical influence and trademark title ''Born of the Night,'' to their breakthrough release, as well as the 1999 follow-up ''Realm of Shadows.'' Vargo radically altered Midnight Syndicate's sound, giving the band a new direction and streamlining their experimental mix of styles to focus exclusively on a darker sound that would appeal to his established gothic audience.
