David Lichens (born in Portland, Oregon) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter.
Lichens is the son of a notable jazz guitarist, which exposed him to the music scene from an early age. He started playing the piano when he was very young. When he was 9 years old, his parents bought him an electric guitar and he committed himself to learn. His father taught him how to work the instrument and he developed his sense for music from there on.
As he continued to perfect his musicianship and songwriting, Lichens moved to Nashville to pursue his own career. In 1995 he joined legendary Christian rock band Petra which exposed him to lots of worldwide touring experience. Unfortunately, in 1997 he was fired due to musical differences with the other members.
Lichens then moved to Los Angeles and had a short stint fronting rock band Revolver. Later, one of his demos caught the attention of EMI Publishing. He is currently working with the band The Heavy Steadies.
Lichens' songs and compositions have been featured in several films and soundtracks. His single "Let Go" was featured on the movie soundtrack She's the Man. Other of his songs have been featured in films like Saved!, After Sex, and The Water Horse and TV shows like "Everwood".
Lichens produced Fefe Dobson's 3rd Lp, "Joy" in which he cowrote 5 songs, one of which is "Watch Me Move". The song has been released as a Digital download and as music videos.
He has also worked with former American Idol contestant and singer-songwriter Jason Castro.
