James E. O'Keefe III is a conservative activist and journalist in the United States. He founded The Centurion (cited as its Godfather) while attending Rutgers College in 2004.

In 2006, James O'Keefe began to work with Lila Rose. He came up with the idea to have her pose as an underaged pregnant teen, go into Planned Parenthood clinics, and tape the conversations that followed. Videos of the exchanges have generated criticism of the organization.

He specified his gift should go to fund abortions of minorities because "there are way too many black people." After releasing audio of the conversation, Planned Parenthood issued an apology for the behavior of the staff member on the phone and said their behavior was inappropriate.

In September 2009, O'Keefe collaborated with Hannah Giles to produce video that purported ACORN staffers to be giving housing advice to a "prostitute and her pimp." That video, the first of a series, was published to BigGovernment.com, which led to a subsequent posting on Fox News and Wall Street Journal. There are currently three released videos set in ACORN offices in Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, and Brooklyn, NY.
As a consequence of the videos, ACORN's participation in the 2010 United States Census was terminated. The video also led to a United States Senate vote to end Housing and Urban Development funding to ACORN. Bertha Lewis, ACORN's chief organizer, has threatened both him and Fox News with a lawsuit. Scott Levenson, ACORN's spokesman, has accused O'Keefe of dubbing the audio to take the videos.
