Revision as of 12:09, 9 December 2009
For the 1885–1922 constituency, see North Cork (UK Parliament constituency).Cork North was a parliamentary constituency in Ireland which was represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. The method of election was the Single Transferable Vote form of proportional representation (PR-STV).
The constituency existed from 1923 to 1969. It elected three (and sometimes four) deputies (Teachtaí Dála, commonly known in English as TDs), using the Single Transferable Vote method of proportional representation (PR-STV).
Boundaries
It consisted of the county electoral areas of Kanturk and Macroom in the administrative county of Cork.
History
The constituency was created in 1923, under the Electoral Act 1923, for the 1923 general election to Dáil Éireann, whose members formed the 4th Dáil. The constituency returned three Teachtaí Dála initially. The number of seats was increased to four in for the 1937 general election but was reduced back to three in 1948.
It succeeded the constituency of Cork Mid, North, South, South East and West. It was abolished under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1961, when it was replaced by the new constituency of Cork North East.
