Kancha Ilaiah is an social activist,thinker and scholar. He was born into Kuruma Golla family on October 5 1952 and was brought up in a small south Indian village. His family's main profession was sheep farming. He earned his doctorate degree in political science at the Osmania University in Hyderabad, India. His Ph.D thesis was based on Gautama Buddha's Political Philosophy.

Dr. Kancha Ilaiah is currently Professor and Chairman of Political Science, Osmania University.

He is an outspoken activist in the Dalit-Bahujan (Scheduled and Backwards Castes) and civil liberties movement. A fierce, hardline and a vociferous critic of Hindu religion, he has on numerable occasions attacked and trashed the Hindu religion. His latest attack was testifying before U.S. Congress against Hindus especially the so-called upper castes and urging the US Government to review ties with Indian Republic for its "Genocide" against Muslims and Christians.

He is the author of several books, including

Buffalo Nationalism--A critique of spiritual fascism

His book, Why I Am Not A Hindu has been a best-seller in India.
