- Mystery! is a PBS program showing British detective fiction series.
- Also in modern colloquial English, a mystery is something which is unknown or unexplained.
- Originally mystery was a religious term. Thus the Sacred Mysteries were rites into which only the initiated were admitted, lest they become the object of ridicule. See also Mystery religion.
- In Christianity, a mystery (mysterion) is an effectual mystical action that uses outward, visible signs as a means of conveying inward, spiritual grace. In the West, this is also given the Latin term for a signed and sealed pledge: sacrament.
- Another sense of the word mystery is defined by the Catholic Encyclopedia as "a supernatural truth ... that of its very nature lies above the finite intelligence".
- In medieval Britain, mystery meant a craft, trade or profession. Thus an apprentice to one of the guilds would be said to be learning the mysteries of that guild.
- Both of the above meanings: supernatural truth or trade may be the origin of the name mystery play applied to a form of religious drama.
- Mystery is the name of a chess engine. See Mystery (chess).
- Mystery is also one of the four cats belonging to Emily Strange. (see Mystery Strange)
- Mystery is a Canadian digital television channel devoted to mystery and suspense television shows. Owned and operated by CanWest Global.
- Mysteries is an 1892 novel by the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun.
