David Reimer is a chromosomal male, born in 1965, whose penis was destroyed in the course of a botched circumcision, and was subsequently surgically reassigned as a female. The child resisted being socialized as a girl and eventually sought and received a second surgical reassignment as a male.
Sadly, David Reimer took his own life on May 5, 2004.
