He started out as a DJ, and then was first paired with ] at WLUP FM, WLS AM, WLS FM, and WLUP AM. One of Steve and Garry's most famous events was ] July 12, 1979. Meier started out as a DJ at WFYR in 1973, then moved to WYEN in 1974. He left WYEN in 1977 and was out of radio until joining ] in 1979 as their overnight jock, where he eventually joined morning man ] to form the duo of "Steve & Garry". During their tenure at ] (1979-81), the team was number one and continued that success at WLS AM & FM from 1981 through 1986. In 1986 they returned to ] and later shifted to afternoons on ] until they split in 1993. One of Steve and Garry's most famous events was ] July 12, 1979.


Meier worked solo middays for a brief period at WLUP FM, and after that, he ventured into television for a time, doing short pieces for WGN TV. After that ended, he was partened at WLS AM with ]. Both shows with Dahl and Conn were highly rated, the latter topping the ratings for seven straight years. It has been reported by both former partners that Garry Meier's wife - who is now his agent - is responsible for the demise of the partnerships, something Garry denies. He instead blames the behavior of Steve Dahl in the first case, and Disney/ABC Management in the second. Both Roe and Steve have continued their shows since Meier's departure, albeit with less successful ratings.
