Uploading images to wikipedia
Help, im having troble uploading images to wikipedia. Hamedog 06:11, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- What kind of problems? Do realise wikipedia does not allow certain file formats such as .bmp because of the sake of hardrive space and bandwidth. Also if you simply rename a .jpg as .gif and attempt to upload to wikipedia, the servers will interprete the immage as being "corrupt". If that's the case try resaving image on for example windows paint as a .png or .gif which should "fix" it. --Cool Cat 14:13, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. Its working again but before I was trying to upload on firefox it was saying "Alear, no document' after hitting submit. On internet explorer it was saying page cannot be displayed. It was kinda of odd. Hamedog 14:25, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- That happens to all of us from time to time. When wikipedia servers are overloaded enough they rarely ignore some requests all together. It is a known bug I guess. We need better servers to compensate. :) --Cool Cat 14:36, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Categories
Hi Hamedog,
There is a Misplaced Pages guideline that says we only put articles in their most specific categories; that is, an article should not be in both a category and one of its sub-categories. In the case of Category:Public Schools Association, this was in Category:Private schools in Western Australia, Category:Schools in Western Australia, Category:Education in Western Australia and Category:Education, even though the first is a subcategory of the second, which is a subcategory of the third, which is a subcategory of the fourth. You also had Category:Public Schools Association listed as a subcategory of itself, which I'm sure I don't need to convince you is inappropriate.
Once you have created Category:Public Schools Association, article Public Schools Association doesn't need to be in any other category, because any other category that the article should be in the category should be in too.
As for templates, putting a template in a category will put every article to which the template is added into that category too. So one must be very careful. For example, you put Template:Public Schools Association in Category:Associations of schools, which would seem to make sense, except that as soon as you put the template into Hale School, Hale School then ends up in Category:Associations of Schools, which is obviously incorrect.
Sorry to dump so much information on you; you looked like you needed a bit of help. Snottygobble | Talk 00:45, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- What do you suggest I do then? Hamedog 00:47, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- With regards to what? I have already rationalised the categories in this case, so you don't need to do anything. I just wanted to let you know how it works for in future. If you want more information, you can see Misplaced Pages:Categorization. Snottygobble | Talk 00:52, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Scotch College, Perth
This article is improving, and well done on what you have achieved thus far. Before it becomes featured at the Schools Portal - and it's very close - I'd look to see a couple more sections just fleshed out a bit more. On a related note, any chance of a picture or two of the school? Currently, there's the school logo, and then the school logo in a blurry blazer pic. Keep up the good work though! - In my view, to expand: History, Academics, Senior school academics, Moray, The Arts, and any more alumni you can think of that have Misplaced Pages articles. Have a look at either Caulfield Grammar School or Hopkins School, in my view the two best school article, and see how no section is really too small. That's what the aim is. Harro5 03:26, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- The article is now a showcase article at the Schools Portal. Of course, this doesn't mean it shouldn't keep improving. If you can't add any more to it at present, I'd encourage you to have the article peer reviewed. This has always helped on most articles looking to become first-rate. I can't see Images
Coolcat, I have been away from my Computer for nearly a month because I was on my summer vacation and now I can only view images when I click on the high res. link on the images. When viewing pages there is just a blank box. Did some wikipedian policy change or something? Thanks Hamedog 04:38, 24 January 2006 (UTC). Could you please reply on my talk too?

- I cannot see any images on articles. I cannot see the images when I click on the blank box where the image should be. I can only see then when I click high res. It been happening the whole time and I can see images on other websites. Template:Hamedog
