View of Blue Area from Jinnah Avenue Islamabad

The Blue Area is the commercial and business hub of Islamabad, Pakistan. It is called the "Blue Area" because it was represented in a colour blue in the original design of the planned city. The area is actually a corridor that runs along Islamabad's Khayaban-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Islamabad's primary arterial road which leads up to the main government buildings. It is characterized by clean, wide roads and tall buildings among the panaromic greenery of the adjacent areas. The Blue Area has recently received a significant amount of foreign direct investment. Recently, construction began on The Centaurus, a multi-purpose complex in the Blue Area which will include residential and office towers, and a luxury hotel.

Islamabad Stock Exchange

The Islamabad Stock Exchange building is also situated in the Blue Area. A bull statue stands outside this building. It is currently the tallest building in Islamabad, the fourth tallest in the whole of Pakistan, and the tallest building in Pakistan outside of Karachi, but that will change when the Telecom Tower is completed in December 2010.
