Harry Whittington is an Austin, Texas-based attorney who was accidentally shot by United States Vice-President Dick Cheney in a hunting accident on February 11, 2006.
Biography
Whittington received his law degree from the University of Texas.
In 1950, Whittington began a private law practice in Austin.
Whittington is outspoken about his doubts about the death penalty as it is applied in Texas, especially in regards to defendants who are mentally retarded.
Government positions
He has served as chairman of the Texas Public Finance Authority Board and is a past member of the Texas Board of Corrections, which is now known as the Texas Board of Criminal Justice.
Whittington serves as a public member and chairman of the Texas Funeral Service Commission.
