Simon McKeon (born 1955) is an Australian businessman, philanthropist and sportsman. He was named Australian of the Year for 2011.
Business
McKeon was announced chairman of CSIRO in June 2010. He was Executive Chairman of Macquarie Bank from 1994 and is President of the statutory dispute resolution body for Australian public company takeovers, the Australian Takeovers Panel. As well as this, he was the Chairman of software specialist MYOB. He was a practising solicitor with Blake Dawson Waldron in Sydney.
Philanthropy
He was a director of World Vision for 15 years and volunteers as a counsellor for heroin addicts at the First Step Clinic in St Kilda. Also, he is Chairman of the Association of Independent Schools Victoria, the Point Nepean Trust and MS Research Australia.
Climate change
McKeon disputes the statement that the science of climate change is settled saying "We may not have all the answers to what is occurring". By the definition of Misplaced Pages, this would put the Australian of the Year in the camp of Climate change denial, an offensive reference comparing those labelled with Holocaust denial.
