The Misplaced Pages Revolution was started by a Wikipedian under the name TJWhite as an effort to make Misplaced Pages a better place to be.
Goals
The specific goals of the revolution vary from revolutionary to revolutionary; however, all who participate acknowledge several core beliefs that have led them to join together. The underlying principles of the revolution are that:
- Misplaced Pages is broken and must be fixed.
- A minority of wikipedians have a disproportionate impact and squash out disagreement.
- Misplaced Pages is not Britannica and will never be Brittanica.
The community of revolutionaries has proposed several measures to begin the process of reform:
- Make all initial blocks temporary (24 hours or less) and require an arbcom style decision process to create any longer blocks. Also, never allow indefinite blocks, provide some maximum block duration (perhaps 3 months, but the community is divided).
- Eliminate administrators giving all users delete/undelete and other admin capabilities except for blocking. (disputed within community)
- End page protection except for the main page which should be semiprotected. (some revolutionaries support wider semiprotection, but almost all oppose complete protection as it currently exists).
- Create a small antivandal force of volunteers with temporary IP block capability to replace current admin based system.
- Eliminate notability criteria, allowing all verifiable, neutral articles to exist.
History
The revolution was founded by TJWhite who is now banned for vandalism. Most of the community acknowledge that TJ was a vandal and used bad methods to spread his revolution, but support his revolution.
TJ gained one important disciple in the early days, LaRevolution. LaRevolution was an admitted sockpuppet of an anonymous admin but refused to identify him/herself for fear of retribution and rightly so as the unfortunate LaRevolution was accused of being a sockpuppet of TJWhite and was unfairly banned as a troll. Since that time, LaRevolution has not had any interaction with the revolutionary community.
Other users have since joined, many adopting TJ as part of their user name to show support for our leader.
Justification
All anti-admin measures we support can be easily justified to anyone who has spent even just five minutes on wikipedia.
Notability
Misplaced Pages was founded to be the most comprehensive resource on earth. All notability discussions are arbitrary. By eliminating notability restrictions, we can beat traditional encyclopedias in breadth of coverage. This is how Misplaced Pages will become great!
