Marko Pomerants (born 24 September 1964 in Tamsalu, Lääne-Viru County, Estonia) is the Estonian Minister of the Interior and sits on the Government Security Committee in that capacity. Pomerants holds two degrees from Tartu University: a degree in geology earned in 1989, and a Master of Public Administration in 2002.

Career history

Pomerants began his political career in the Lääne-Viru County Environmental Department in 1994. A year later he moved on to become the governer ( Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help)) of the county for eight years. Entering national politics in 2003, Pomerants was the Estonian Minister of Social Affairs from 2003–2005 before becoming a full-time member of Riigikogu from 2005–2009. Pomerants assumed the mantle of Estonian Minister of the Interior on June 4, 2009 (2009-06-04).
