Geneva (French: Genève, German: Genf) second-most populous city in Switzerland (after Zürich), located where Lake Geneva (French: Lac Léman) empties into the Rhone River. Also the name of the westernmost canton of Switzerland, surrounded on almost all sides by France and centered around the city of Geneva. The city of Geneva is the seat of many international organizations, and was the seat of the League of Nations until its dissolution. In the 16th century it was the center of Calvinism.
