Peter Ruckman a.k.a. Dr. Peter S. Ruckman (born 1921), the son of Col. John Hamilton Ruckman and the grandson of General John Wilson Ruckman. Ruckman, is a Baptist minister, teacher, writer and founder of the Pensacola Bible Institute, Pensacola, Florida. Ruckman is the pastor of Bible Baptist Church (Penscaola) and is also noted for his chalk and pastel artwork: large canvases on which he sketches Biblical scenes (often during his preaching). His sermons are broadcast on television stations nationwide and can be viewed internationally via Direct TV and satellite. Ruckman has also contributed dozens of oil portraits to the Christian Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio.
Ruckman received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Kansas State University. He obtained his Masters from the University of Alabama and Doctorate from Bob Jones University (an unaccredited institution). He was also a close personal friend of the founder of the later institution, Bob Jones Sr (1881-1968).
Ruckman is a notable (if not the most famous) defender of what is known as the KJV-Only Movement. He believes that some differences between the King James Version of the Bible and the Textus Receptus can be characterized as "advanced revelation". He also claims that, for English speaking persons, the KJV can be more authoritative than the Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament, a position strongly opposed by most supporters of biblical inerrancy, including the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy.
Ruckman's writings and recorded sermons are published by his own press (Bible Baptist Bookstore). He is a frequent critic of his alma mater, Bob Jones University, believing that BJU's stance on Biblical translations is faulty. One particular BJU professor, Stewart Custer, has written a book against Ruckman, prompting Ruckman to write Custer's Last Stand.
Some KJV-Only followers do not consider Ruckman to be a representative of their position, and often take great pains to avoid being associated with him. However, some of Ruckman's followers are avidly loyal in their support, calling themselves "Ruckmanites", or as one put it, "Ruckman Knights".
