In 2004, Qui was recognized as one of NYTheatre.com’s People of the Year, as well as awarded a commission from Ma-Yi Theatre and the Jerome Foundation. He currently is a co-director of the Ma-Yi Writers Lab, a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Youngblood Playwrights Group, and the the Artistic Director of Vampire Cowboys Theatre.

As a playwright, Qui's plays include the Off-Broadway production of TRIAL BY WATER (Ma-Yi Theater/Queens Theatre in the Park); VCTC productions of LIVING DEAD IN DENMARK; VAMPIRE COWBOY TRILOGY (published in PLAYS & PLAYWRIGHTS 2005); STAINED GLASS UGLY; A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO DEICIDE. Other plays include BIKE WRECK(Metropolitan Playhouse); STAND UP ABSURDITY (Wing & Groove Theatre of Chicago); SLICING ANDRE (Ensemble Studio Theatre's OctoberFest); and ALL IN THE MIMING (Vital Theatre/Lady Cavaliers).
