Sharon Osbourne (born October 9, 1952) is the wife of famous singer Ozzy Osbourne, and the mother of Jack Osbourne and budding singer Kelly Osbourne.
Osbourne, a native of England, has also gained wild celebrity herself after the beginning of MTV's reality show, The Osbournes. She was the person who negotiated with MTV so that MTV would tape a show around her family's daily life. Therefore, she is often credited with her husband's resurgence in pop culture. The show began airing in 2001 and is still on the American television airwaves. MTV's British affiliate, known as MTV Europe, has been airing the show since 2003.
Also in 2001, Osbourne was diagnosed with colon cancer. Recently, she announced her cancer has spread to her lymph nodes.
In 2003 Osbourne became the host of her own television talk show, "The Sharon Osbourne Show". The show was meant to be a reflection of Sharon's personality and her home life, much like what one sees when watching her reality show, but with the inclusion of guest interviews and performances. However, it was never very successful in ratings and critics panned her inability to do very basic talk-show-host tasks like read cue cards or conduct interesting interviews.
Eventually the show's format changed to one that was extremely standard and not at all what Osbourne had wanted for her show. A sequence on her reality show found her struggling to book any noteworthy celebrity guests because their agents did not feel an appearance on the show would be of any use. The show was cancelled in early 2004; as of May 2004 calls to the show's hotline, 1-800-HEY-SHARON, go through to a production office that is gathering show ideas for a potential new project.
Sharon is due to judge on new British TV talent show X-Factor with Simon Cowell. It will start in September 2004.
