Tamil Eelam is a hypothetical area in the north and east of Sri Lanka in which Tamil nationalists want to form an independent state. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), also known as the Tamil Tigers, are the nationalists' fighting force. Tamil nationalist movements in Tamil Nadu are fighting to establish a "Greater Tamil Nadu" which includes Tamil Eelam.
