Grace Fu Hai Yien (Chinese: 傅海燕; pinyin: Fù Hǎiyiàn) is the Senior Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts, and the Environment and Water Resources in Singapore.
Education
Grace Fu graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) in 1985 and obtained a Masters of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore in 1991. She is a Non-Practising member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore since 1992.
Business career
Fu began her career with the Overseas Union Bank as an auditor. Between 1991 and 1995, she worked in corporate planning, financial control and business development positions in several entities of the Haw Par Group.
In October 1995, Fu joined PSA Corporation as an Assistant Director (Finance). She took on additional responsibilities as Vice-President (Marketing) and assumed the position of Financial Controller of PSA Corporation in October 1998. She was promoted to the position of Executive Vice-President (Finance) in January 1999. In April 2003, Fu was appointed the Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Terminals. Before she left the PSA Group, Fu was holding the appointment of Chief Executive Officer, PSA South East Asia and Japan, where she was responsible for the business performance of PSA’s flagship terminals in Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Japan.
Political career
Grace Fu was one of the 24 new PAP candidates formally introduced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore in 2006. She was elected as a Member of Parliament in June 2006 for the Group Representation Constituency of Jurong. On 1 August 2006, Fu was appointed Minister of State for National Development.
On 1 April 2008, Grace Fu was promoted to Senior Minister of State, and was appointed in the Ministry of Education, concurrently with her appointment in the Ministry of National Development. Following her re-election in the 2011 General Elections, she was appointed Senior Minister of State in two ministries, the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, and the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
In January 2012, Fu expressed her concerns over the planned 36-37% income cuts for ministers, saying if ministerial pay was further reduced, it would "make it harder for any one considering political office".
