Persis Solo was founded in 1923 as Vorstenlandsche Voetbal Bond (VVB). In the past Persis have good performances in every competition but now this is not the case. When Persis Solo were still in Perserikatan, Persis won the title 8 times.

Persis Solo have a very tough competitor in the League of PSIM Yogyakarta. Since the beginning of the meeting of the league, this game usually called Old Indonesia derby.
