Born in San Francisco, California, Young was respresented in New York by Elite Model Management and later Trump Model Management. Young has worked in the USA, Japan, Italy, Britain and France. Young has appeared in advertising campaigns for Revlon, L'Oreal, Clairol, Maybelline, as well as Victoria’s Secret, and has been featured in Vogue, Elle, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. . In 1988, Karawas photographed by Richard Avedon for Revlon’s "Most unforgettable Women" campaign along with two supermodels Christy Turlington and Laurence Treil. That same year, Young had an acting role in Coming to America and later became an entertainment correspondent for Fox News Channel. Young retired from modeling in 2004, and began devoting her full time towards working at Hair Rules New York.

Young has three sisters and one brother. She was first married to photographer Sante D'Orazio in 1996 and has a son Nick Young with him. Later, she married billionaire shipping magnate Peter Georgiopoulos in 2005, they have one child together Constantine Young currently lives in New York City with her two children and husband Peter Georgiopoulos.
