Malaysian TV

I've requested you earlier to unlock these articles, but you keep relocking the Malaysian TV articles.

All the problems are caused from Albert20009 socks, and you keep locking it? I suggest to block the user instead (the main user has been blocked, and now, block the IPs)--110.168.62.14 (talk) 12:35, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

The IPs simply change when they're blocked. If you have an edit request you may post to the article talk page and I will help you. Regards Tiderolls 14:03, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

There were several edit conflicts in between. Hello Tide rolls. Please see this. I tried to help but no avail. If the user performs another edit like the ones before, should I report the IP? I am asking you as you being an administrator are personally involved and hence I don’t want to overstep. What do you suggest? Cheers AKS 19:11, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Arunsingh. Thanks for your consideration in coming here. I found the IP's behavior problematical as you can tell from the exchange on their user talk. I have recused myself from direct contact with this IP in the hope that without my interference they could find a way to contribute constructively within the guidelines and policies of this project. My failure to establish a raport with the IP may be due to some cultural or language obstacle. That the IP has been reverted by several editors and that they have been intransigent with regard to their method and attitude communicates to me that the possibility for compromise is not great. If you feel that more opinions are needed then I say proceed. I would trust your judgement. Regards Tiderolls 20:31, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
Regrettably, this is a common occurance of page protection. User:Skier Dude acted according to policy by protecting the page in the state they found it. Unless there is an overriding reason (BLP violation, copyvio or outright vandalism) the protecting admin should not take "sides" in a content dispute. As you have brought your concerns to Skier Dude's attention there is nothing for me to do at this point. You have directed Skier Dude to the IP's talk page and my comments will be seen there. Do not let yourself be overly frustrated by the protection. You have done all that you could. Regards Tiderolls 11:17, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi, 92.23.139.48 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) is another vandal of strongman articles with the same MO and from the same range as 92.30.138.42 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) that you recently blocked. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Unfortunately I am at work and cannot give this matter my full attention. I would have to find an admin with more exprience with rangeblocks in any event, so you may want to post at WP:ANI and make your case for the rangeblock. I will check into this after work and if there are any loose ends I will follow up. See ya 'round Tiderolls 16:00, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Tide rolls,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and

Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's

Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we

teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community,

and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what

you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community

[[Misplaced Pages:Village_pump_(proposals)/Archive_82#Learn_to_be_a_Wikipedia_Administrator_-

_New_class_at_MSU|HERE]], where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my

students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training,

motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one

of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of

communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)

  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will

never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.

  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an

interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.

  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics

review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have

been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak

with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I

will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your

name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be

more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

List of Iron Chef America episodes

The vandal on List of Iron Chef America episodes you blocked yesterday is back, this time as an IP vandal. He's only repeated the vandalism once, which I reverted an hour or so ago, but I thought a heads up might not be a bad idea, just in case. Thanks for the speedy action yesterday. --Drmargi (talk) 17:35, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

The IP editor who got blocked

Hi there; you don;t know me from Adam (or, more appropriately, Eve). I'm concerned about what happened with that IP editor. Please see here and here for a bit more background.

This guy has been editing since 2009, was falsely accused of being another editor logged-out to cause disruption, had a CU/SPI called on them, and was (understandably) pretty miffed, especially when they were blocked by someone else involved in the dispute on the same page. They really weren't treated fairly, and their unblock request of "malicious block from an administrator involved in the issue debated at Misplaced Pages:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard#At_Wikipedia:Verifiability" was perfectly understandable, bearing in mind the actual circumstances as opposed to any wrongful assumptions. There's no way that a named-account editor, who had been editing since 2009, would have been blocked without any warning for something as petty as actually happened. I really am disturbed by this case; it's very, very unjust, and this editor's feelings have been badly hurt. They are now saying they don't intend to contribute any more. Can anything be done to undo some of this damage? A block expiring does nothing to heal the hurt feelings and justifiable disenchantment with the project. Pesky (talk) 09:29, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Pesky. I do sort of "know" you by seeing your posts around some of the places I lurk; not that my opinion is well thought of far and wide, but I do have respect for your contribution to the project and put you in my personal category of "core dedicated users". I agree with most of what you say here. Having said that, I'm not sure what can be done about hurt feelings. I assure you that I am not unsympathetic and would even consider making a more detailed invitation to the aggrieved party. However, as previously mentioned, I didn't hang the moon :) If I've missed the point of your message or you see some obvious way forward that my cranial density is preventing me from appreciating, please let me know. Thanks for coming here and letting me know of your concern. See ya 'round Tiderolls 12:50, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi again; I've been mulling this over for a couple of days, and have just posted on Jehochman's talk. I'm hoping not to be beaten to an emotional pulp for it. If you consider it appropriate, could you drop a line on the IP's talk along the lines of "you may have been treated a bit too harshly; apologies for any undue upset", or something similar? I think could make a big difference to that editor, who has still not edited since 28 February, their last contributions having been to the SPI page. Pesky (talk) 09:43, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
P.S. I've also contacted everyone else who was involved in the chain of events, and updated Elen (who has been keeping an eye on the WP:V page), and left my own "apology on behalf of The system" at the IP's talk. This guy really went through the mill here, through no real fault of his own. He was accused of socking, then accused of racism, dragged to AN/I, dragged to SPI, blocked for 48 hours, had his (perfectly reasonable under the circumstances) unblock request ignored, and has – quite understandably – been badly upset to the point of saying he doesn't intend to contribute further. His only contributions since then were to the SPI case. A lot of emotional damage was done here. I'm hoping something can be undone. Pesky (talk) 11:03, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

IP Block

The IP has posted a message noting their action was in good faith. They've circumvented the block, being an IP, and I suggest we do one last WP:AGF and drop a warning about future actions and WP:ROPE. As blocking admin, it is of course up to you. CMD (talk) 15:20, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Talk:ROC

I didn't know my previous IP was block because I'm not behind a static IP address. I thought you were only questioning about Chipmunkdavis' comment. I didn't know I have effectively got around a block. I didn't mean it and please don't regard this as an intentional evasion. On the other hand, since you have taken a strong position towards moving comments, would you please take a look at Talk:Republic of China? There was only one single section for the votes. Users like Eraserhead1 later broke it down into three subsections, Support, Oppose, and Others. As a result the votes were moved around and the remarks that refer to earlier votes are broken. I have posted a note to request the closing admins to take this into consideration. Would you enforce the same standard to those users who moved the votes around? Thanks in advance. Meanwhile, may I know if it was a green light to HiLo48's foul languages and personal attacks? Will there be any action taken against such incivility? 202.189.98.134 (talk) 15:36, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Surreal...simply surreal. Intentional evasion...unintentional evasion; I don't see the distinction. You were told your actions were disruptive and, instead of altering your behavior, you continued. I cannot accept that you have the level of difficulty with the English language that you are exhibiting. There must be a different answer. Fortunately, I am not obsessed with discovering the answer. I'll have some lunch and watch some TV... Tiderolls 17:32, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
There have been quite a few disruptive IP addresses (many of whom are likely this one person) at the ROC talk page over the last several months I've been watching it (and probably longer), and many of them have been blocked. This person seems intimately familiar with Misplaced Pages policies and practices, and has been frustrating the many good faith editors on that talk page (HiLo is the one who usually verbalizes this frustration..). Due to the relative ease of obtaining a new IP address, blocking has no effect; so Misplaced Pages appears to be powerless to stop the disruption.. sigh. Mlm42 (talk) 18:24, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
It's my understanding that courtesy of this particular editor, a soft range block has been put in place for almost all of the university's 202.189.98 range. Misplaced Pages is perhaps not entirely powerless to stop the disruption, though it's a shame that this editor's crusade will now affect every other student at the university unless they register an account. It's plainly clear that he knows what he's doing and that he knows what he's doing is wrong. – NULLtalk

"Fortunately, I am not obsessed with discovering the answer. I'll have some lunch and watch some TV..." I don't know if that's not fulfilling the responsibilities as an administrator or abusing of administrator's powers. Anyhow, for your information, I had already clarified with Chipmunkdavis regarding the restored comment that you questioned. Thanks. Jeffrey (202.189.98.132) (talk) 11:44, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Rather than get into it with him again, DavisJune has returned and is continuing the pro-American propaganda experience featuring Moe. Considering his comment to similar user Saccyind here, I believe talk will still not sway him from this path so I thought it easier to bring it to your attention first, since you have knowledge of the goings on.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 23:50, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

It would appear that the situation was resolved by others, at least for the short term. I appreciate the confidence shown in bringing this here but it was probably for the best that others became involved. This way DavisJune may be convinced that their position needs a re-thinking. Re: Reviewer Permission

Dear Tide rolls;

I have a rather strange request for you I really can not get answered out in the open. A while back I was a well respected editor of the en-Misplaced Pages, when my account was compromised and was used over time to tarnish the quality of the project and generally be seen as a sleeper vandal. During that time, I had earned the privilege of the role "Reviewer". Some years later, I am coming back and once again desire to be nothing but a positive contributor. I am active in the RecentPages vandal fighting. However, I see the proposal at WP:Reviewer failed and nobody is being considered to be granted upon the title. I was wondering, if you would not mind, since

  • a) No actual permission is granted with the flag, and
  • b) The practice is no longer regulated,

if, for sentiments sake, you could please reinstate me as a reviewer. I have heard all about why this is not necessary, but if you could please consider it for my sake, I would be greatly and forever appreciative. Thank you for your time.

Best Regards; —An Illusive Man— 00:15, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, AIM. I am hesitant to change user rights that have no utility. This is no comment on you or your contributions, but until Pending Changes is reconsidered reviewer flags are of no use. Regards Tiderolls 05:11, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
