Robert Sumner is a Reverend and Christian author. Since the 1980s he has editted The Biblical Evangelist and has been engaged in conferences and lectures. He is also known as one of the few critics of pastor Dr. Jack Hyles. This has been ever since Dr. Hyles was chosen by Sword editor Curtis Hutson as an independent advisor to The Sword of the Lord. Sumner didn't like the recommendations made by Hyles to the board of The Sword and Sumner ended up severing his ties with The Sword of the Lord over the ordeal and complained that he was left "without an editorial voice". Sumner criticized Hyles again in 1989 when he wrote "The Saddest Story I've Ever Told," which accused Jack Hyles of sexual scandals and financial misappropriation.
