Mariangela "Mary" Demurtas (born November 4, 1981) is an Italian contralto singer and musician. She's better know as the current lead singer of the Norwegian Gothic metal band Tristania.
Early Life
While living on the island of Sardinia. Her musical career started in 2000 while attending the School of Foreign Linguistics and Literature in Sassari. She had appeared in couple of local festivals in Sardinia. With her musical experience, Mariangela decideed to join an amateur blues band in 2000. After 2 years, she then decided to join in on a Sassari-based metal band "Reel Fiction" in 2002.
Carrer
Her career as a singer began when she joined a metal band called "Reel Fiction" in 2002. The ban and Mary then start to enter the studio in 2003 to record a four track demo entitled "Transfer". The entire demo was produced by current guitarist of Helloween, Sasha Gerstner, in a studio near the city of Bamberg in Germany. In 2005, Mariangela and Reel Fiction decided to part ways. She left for Milan where she performed for a short period of time with another band from Northern Italy, called "Alight".
While in Milan, she also worked as a VJ for the Italian Rock TV on an amateur basis, interviewing bands like Europe and Blackfield.
In the Spring of 2007, the same time around when the band announced Vibeke Stene departed from Tristania. Mariangela sent a demo to Tristania. In August 2007, she was the finally announced as the new official singer of Tristania. Due to musical purposes, Mary has to relocate to Olso.

Over the last couple of years, Mariangela collaborated with well-known musicians such as Danny Cavanagh of Anathema, and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax and internationally acknowledged producers such as Waldemar Sorychta and Sasha Gerstner of Helloween.
