==Background and release==
Perry told ''Billboard'' in late 2012 about her upcoming album: "I know exactly the record I want to make next. I know the artwork, the coloring and the tone..... I even know what type of tour I'm doing next. I'll be very pleased if the vision I have in my head becomes a reality". However, Perry mentioned that she does not want the album to be a "Teenage Dream 2.0", stating: "That would be silly. It's not of any interest for me to try and outdo myself at every corner. Eventually you just like pop, explode".<ref>{{cite web|title=Katy Perry Won't Rush New Album: "I Know Exactly The Record I Want To Make Next" - Capital FM|url=http://www.capitalfm.com/artists/katy-perry/news/new-album-ideas/|publisher=Capital FM}}</ref> Perry said the record would contain darker elements, departing from her previous sound.<ref>{{cite web|title=Katy Perry Says New Album Will Be 'Real Fucking Dark|url=http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1682914/katy-perry-album.jhtml|work=MTV|publisher=Viacom|accessdate=April 13, 2012}}</ref> ] <ref name=Diplo>{{cite web|title=Katy Perry Working With Diplo On Her New Album: "She Has A Great Voice!" - Capital FM|url=http://www.capitalfm.com/artists/katy-perry/news/diplo-new-album-work/|publisher=Capital FM|accessdate=July 12, 2013}}</ref> ], ], ], ] have collaborated with her on the album.<ref>{{cite web|last=Gallo|first=Phil|title=Katy Perry Is Halfway There on Third Album, Talks New Songs Like 'Double Rainbow'|url=http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/1558827/katy-perry-is-halfway-there-on-third-album-talks-new-songs-like-double-rainbow|work=Billboard.com|publisher=Billboard|accessdate=April 19, 2013|date=April 18, 2013}}</ref> Songs that have been recorded for the album include "Double Rainbow",<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/1558827/katy-perry-is-halfway-there-on-third-album-talks-new-songs-like-double-rainbow |title=Katy Perry Is Halfway There on Third Album, Talks New Songs Like 'Double Rainbow' |publisher=Billboard |date= |accessdate=July 6, 2013}}</ref> "Bad Photographs",<ref name=Vogue>{{cite web|last=Woods|first=Vicki|title=Katy Perry's First Vogue Cover|url=http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/beauty-and-the-beat-katy-perrys-first-vogue-cover/#1|publisher=Vogue|accessdate=June 2013}}</ref> "It Takes Two", "Unconditional",<ref>http://i.imgur.com/OTqRDmi.jpg</ref> and "Roar".<ref name="Roar Teaser">{{cite web|title=Katy Perry - Roar - Burning Baby Blue|url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5Hel36qrFI|publisher=YouTube|accessdate=August 2, 2013}}</ref>
