Deniz Aytekin (born 21 July 1978) is a German football referee of Turkish origin who officiates in Germany. He is based in Oberasbach, Bavaria.
Career
Aytekin refereed his first Fußball-Bundesliga match on 27 September 2008 when Hertha BSC played FC Energie Cottbus in Berlin. Energie Cottbus won the game 1–0, and Aytekin gave out four yellow cards, including one to Cottbus goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel for time-wasting in the 90th minute.
Beer-throwing incident
On 1 April 2011, Aytekin was refereeing FC St. Pauli vs. FC Schalke 04 when in the 89th minute, after an offside call against St. Pauli, a fan threw a plastic mug of beer at the assistant referee Thorsten Schiffner. Aytekin abandoned the match with Schalke 04 winning 2–0. The result stood and St. Pauli had to play their next home match against SV Werder Bremen behind closed doors.
