Captain Jack Sparrow is a main character in the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and was played by Johnny Depp.

Jack Sparrow is a pirate. He used to command the Black Pearl, searching for a legendary cache of Aztec gold - but his crew mutinied and marooned him on an island, alongside a gun with a single bullet (in order to kill himself instead of letting starvation kill him). However he escaped, and went looking for revenge against the leader of the mutiny: First Mate (now Captain) Barbossa. He kept the gun and bullet for the purpose of shooting Barbossa with them.

One of his characteristic attributes is a slightly drunken walk (more of a stagger, accompanied by very random flailing hand gestures) which makes him look unfocused -- that may partially be a ploy to put people off their guard but is falsely attributed to the heat stroke he was rumored to have suffered when marooned. However, he instead spent the time marooned cavorting with Rum Runners, and thus, was unlikely to have suffered anything worse than a severe hangover.

Another characteristic of his is a quite atypical (for a pirate) altruistic nature, as he often puts himself in harm's way to save other people, notably Elizabeth Swann.
