Still seem to be many disambiguation pages that include entries without a wikipedia article? This will remain an enduring inconsistency for subjects which may well be notable, but do not yet have any article. And deprives readers of a useful half-way house. Gosh, your Talk page is so tidy, isn't it. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:41, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

  • A common practice which it seems is approved of by WP:DAB#Related subjects is to link to an article in which the subject is discussed, for example an article on one of his plays or if he is discussed in the article about the organisation he worked for. Trouble is, if people put links to things other than articles in disambiguation pages, then it destroys the concept of disambiguation, and acts as a magnet for spam and other non-notable material. Disambiguation link notification for January 2

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited OpenBVE, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages .Net and Subway (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:Judith Durham 1960s.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Judith Durham 1960s.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 22:18, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Please help me understand why my links were deleted.

Hi,

I noticed that you have deleted external links posted by me terming them "inappropriate". Could you please let me know what exactly was inappropriate about them? You have shared a bunch of guidelines which I have read previously. But I do not understand which exact guideline was not met. They are links to a functional site which provides summary of opinion/reviews from multiple sources. It is not advertising, spam or copyrighted content. There are numerous such links to reviews on other sites which can also be termed as advertising. So why this specific action against my links? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ritz7286 (talkcontribs) 14:58, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

  • It's because your links were clearly intended to promote the website in question, not to improve the encyclopedia. You should read WP:PROMO. External links are only used where they provide valuable relevant material which can not be incorporated into the article (see WP:EL). References are used to show reliable sources for material in the article (see WP:REF). Your links added nothing to the articles. There may well be other links in articles that are equally unsuitable; in that case they should be removed also. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 15:29, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification, but I am not sure I understand how you decided that the intention is to purely promote the site or that the information on the site is not relevant. Isn't there a section on Critical reception? Does it not contain views of individuals or review websites? Why do you feel they are valuable to the readers but not a comprehensive, unbiased summary of opinions from end users of the products as well as experts? How can you decide that the encyclopedia need only facts stated by the company but not an insight into the opinion held by masses? Anyway, as you suggested, I will post it on the talk section of the page and let people decide if it is relevant or not. But I hope you would show the same vigor and enthusiasm in deleting "other" similar links which are clearly misleading and irrelevant. And I strongly suggest reading Misplaced Pages:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers. Because you just lost one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ritz7286 (talkcontribs) 17:44, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Thanks for making the effort to understand Misplaced Pages policies, but it is very well established here that only review websites with a well-established record of expert unbiased reviews are accepted as references, and even then only the best few (as determined by community consensus) are used. Links to amateur anonymous review sites are generally regarded as spam, especially when the person who adds them does so on several articles. I don't mean to "bite" a newcomer who makes well-intended edits, but your links do bear all the hallmarks of the typical spam that gets summarily reverted all day every day. You are welcome to Misplaced Pages, but please concentrate on improving the actual articles, not adding links. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 18:56, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for "welcoming" me to Misplaced Pages and "appreciating" my efforts to understand the policies. Only point I wanted to add before I end this debate is that I am not sure how you judged the site in question as an "amateur, anonymous review site" without knowing anything about it. Infact if you had spent more time understanding the content of the site, you would have realized that it is only a collation and summary of the reviews which you yourself call "well-established, unbiased expert reviews". It does not review anything on its own. It just ensures that the user has access to everything that was said about the product anywhere on the web, rather than walling off content. Its like saying that a search engine is not reliable, but the results it presents are. Anyway, I understand that your intentions are to have the best content on the article. I had a point of view that this kind of summary might help. It would help if your comments were not so condescending and the focus is on if the content is useful or not. Statement like "clearly intended to promote" or "amateur, anonymous review site" are judgmental in my view. Thanks for your time spent in looking into the edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ritz7286 (talkcontribs) 05:19, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to HP 35s may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 ""s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. Buyer's remorse

Hi, Rwxrwxrwx. I think your recent addition to Buyer's remorse is dubiously relevant to the subject. Buyer's remorse, per the lead section, is a psychological concept. Your new section is very well-written, but surely it would go better in some other article? Not sure where — it's not my field — but I feel it's making this article less focused. How about the article Returning? Bishonen | talk 14:50, 8 October 2013 (UTC).

Gran Via

There in no consensus to delete article about Gran Via center and merge to Granvia l'Hospitalet, district of Hospitalet. This is two different things. Subtropical-man (talk) 15:36, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Also, please no change name of "Plaza de Europa" to "Plaça d'Europa" in the articles. This is English Misplaced Pages, we use name of "Plaza de Europa", article has name of "Plaza de Europa", "Plaça d'Europa" is only redirect. Subtropical-man (talk) 15:42, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Charco del Palo Commercial Links

I am in no way connected to the two commercial external links which you removed, I thought that they added value to the page, given that Charco is primarily a holiday village, links to place where you can rent accomodation seemed reasonable. I have checked the wikipedia help articles regarding external links and commercial links and I think that the two links I added did not violate the wikipedia guidelines. • Hi. If you have a look at WP:ELNO, I think it's clear both of the links fail tests no. 5 (primarily exist to sell product/service), and no. 1 (no valuable material that could not appear in the article). Also, Wendy's blog probably fails test no. 11, but at least there's a bit of entertainment there. Cheers. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 11:43, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Rwxrwxrwx,

Just to let you know that the Featured Picture File:PAUL DELAROCHE - Ejecución de Lady Jane Grey (National Gallery de Londres, 1834).jpg is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on February 12, 2014. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2014-02-12. Thank you for all of your contributions! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:53, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello! There is a DR/N request you may have interest in.

This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Misplaced Pages:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help find a resolution. The thread is "Debian". Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you! 84.127.80.114 (talk) 16:39, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Will you be participating or should we start without you? --Guy Macon (talk) 13:44, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
Fire ahead without me, thanks. It's just another time-wasting exercise by the IP. A clear case of WP:NOTGETTINGIT. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 13:57, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
No problem, and participation is completely voluntary. That being said, it would help if you were to post a one-paragraph statement. If you uncheck the "Watch this page" box that will be the end of it. --Guy Macon (talk) 14:08, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
