The design was altered to a cast-in-situ pre-stressed multi-cell box girder supported on concrete hinges, used for the first time in India. (1965) Shirish was also one of the three original authors of a plan to develop New Bombay across the harbour <ref>http://archnet.org/library/places/one-place.jsp?place_id=1557&order_by=title&showdescription=1</ref><ref></ref>, using ownership of land acquired by Government to finance the infrastructure and construction of the new city.
