Belize is a in Central America, on the Caribbean Sea bordering Mexico and Guatemala. Belize was formerly the British colony of British Honduras. The government of Belize is in the form of a parliamentary democracy. The capital is Belmopan, and the largest city is Belize City. English is the predominant and official language, although Spanish is also widely spoken, and dialects of the Maya language are spoken in some communities. The population of Belize is estimated at about 250,000 people.
